Night one of this 2-Night Pig Hunt in Americus, Georgia got off to a strong start with good conditions and steady movement.

Early in the night, a single hog was located in tall cut corn near a pivot. With favorable wind, the group was able to make a clean stalk and set up efficiently, resulting in a successful recovery.

After moving on to the next field, a sounder was briefly located but moved off before a setup could be completed. Continued scanning while returning to the vehicle revealed another single hog on the opposite side of the field, keeping the group active and on their feet throughout the night.

Between multiple stalks and plenty of walking, night one delivered solid effort and positive results — a great way to start the Thermal Hog Hunt and build momentum heading into night two.

This 1-Night Hog Hunt in Americus, Georgia delivered a solid result through patience and careful decision-making.

Early in the evening, a sounder was detected moving through wooded cover, positioned just far enough away to limit opportunities. While property boundaries and angles were favorable, extremely quiet conditions made movement risky, and discretion was the best option at the time.

Later in the night, continued scanning led to the discovery of a single hog actively feeding along the edge of the field. With improved positioning and clear angles, a controlled setup was made, resulting in a successful recovery.

Though brief, this Wild Hog Hunt highlighted how Thermal Hog Hunting in South Georgia often comes down to timing, awareness, and adapting to conditions. Even on a single-night hunt, focused effort can lead to Effective Hog Control and meaningful results.

Guide Hank's Team: A Lesson in Patience

Meanwhile, Guide Hank's night took a different direction. “Very slow night,” Hank reported. Guide Clay txted Hank and raised a poignant question: “Is it God’s plan to not find any Pigs?” Hank, ever the optimist, replied that perhaps God was teaching them patience. Just as the night seemed to drag on, at 3:30 AM, Hank spotted a Lone Pig less than 200 yards from the van on the treeline. After a stealthy approach, they successfully took down the Hog with ease. Here’s the moment captured in a photo:

The second night surged with energy and action for Guide Peanut Protector Clayton and his team. “The only time I saw pigs was at 4 AM,” he recalled. However, patience proved to be the game-changer. Their luck shifted when they encountered a Sounder of Pigs, leading to an exhilarating Hog Hunt where they brought down 5 Wild Hogs! Hank's team also experienced an Adrenaline-Filled Night of Hunting. He remarked about feeling déjà vu as he spotted Wild Pigs sneaking around in the moonlight. After strategizing their approach, they managed to take down 5 Pigs, with three on the first round. Dragging the Wild Hogs back to the road for a photo op, Hank’s Thermal suddenly revealed six more Wild Hogs emerging from the treeline! With renewed enthusiasm, they geared up once again and successfully bagged two more Pigs, concluding the night with a total of five for the evening. Do You Know What A Hog's Best Sense Is?

Photo: Big Boar @PigProblem

They encountered warm weather and shifting winds while Hunting. They managed to take down a Big Boar. However, there were a few instances where we were winded during our Stalks. For those who may not understand, being winded refers to a situation where the wind changes direction while we're approaching the Hogs, and they are able to pick up our scent. Unlike most animals, Wild Hogs don’t have night vision, their eyes are similar to humans. However, their sense of smell is incredibly strong and they can detect scents from miles away. Feral Hogs possess an extremely well developed sense of smell; in fact, smell is a Hog's best sense. They rely heavily on it to detect danger and seek out food. They can smell some odors 5-7 miles away and can detect odors as many as 25 feet underground!
